Design needs space to think. Clients don't need to see the thinking.

Design work runs on iteration. v1 was directional. v2 cut three options. v3 has the right idea but needs typographic refinement. The internal conversation between art director and designer is half the value of the engagement — and it's exactly the conversation that should not be visible to the client at v1.

Most PM tools force the choice: either give the client real-time visibility into the messy parts, or build a parallel client-facing surface that's perpetually a few hours out of date. Neither is great. Both are how design agencies end up sending PDFs over email instead of working in their own tool.

Workhouse is the tool that lets you work in the open internally and present the polished version externally, on the same task.

Built around the deliverable

The work happens on the task. The conversation, the approval, the version history — all in one place. No second tool to keep in sync.

Iteration rounds without parallel boards.

v1, v2, v3 of an identity round live as comments on one task. Flag the milestone version Client-visible when it's ready; the rest of the round stays internal. The client sees the curated version, not the working version.

Asset deliverables, organized.

Each deliverable lives on its own task with attached files. Fonts, color palettes, logo files, brand guidelines — one approval per asset, one place for the final version.

Internal art-direction without leak risk.

Your art director can write candidly about what's working and what isn't. The visibility flag means "this comment is for the team" — clients literally can't see it.

Approval rounds, tracked.

Every approval has a record. "Client approved v3 on March 12" is in the activity feed forever. The client can't later claim they didn't sign off.

Brand-asset portal per client.

Each client portal is their brand world — the assets you've shipped, the deliverables in progress, the briefs and reference. No cross-client pollution.

Project-archive when you're done.

Archive a closed engagement and clients keep portal access to their assets. Read-only for them; full data preserved on your side.

A week running a brand-identity round

A sketch of how the tool wants to be used.

Monday

Designer drops three logo directions onto the task. Flags it Internal — wants AD input before client sees anything.

Tuesday

AD comments on the task, internally. "Direction B is the strongest. Push the spacing tighter and lose the underline." Designer iterates.

Wednesday

v2 is ready. Designer flips the task to Client-visible and requests approval on direction B. Client gets an email with one action item.

Friday

Client approves with light feedback. Designer ships v3 with the final adjustments. Status report sends: 3 directions explored, 1 approved, identity finalized.

Common questions

How do you handle large file uploads?

Vercel Blob backs file uploads — PNGs, JPGs, WebP for images; PDFs, design source files, video links via embed. For very large files (gigabyte design source), most studios link to Dropbox/Drive from the task — Workhouse renders the link as a card.

Can we share read-only deliverables after a project ends?

Yes. Archived engagements keep their portal accessible read-only. Clients can return to download their assets for years.

Does Workhouse integrate with Figma?

Yes — paste a Figma share link into a task and it renders as a preview embed where Figma permissions allow. Approvals still happen in Workhouse so the audit trail is consistent.

What about creative briefs and discovery decks?

Briefs and decks live as task descriptions or file attachments. For long-form briefs, most studios pair Workhouse with Notion or Google Docs and link out. We're not trying to replace your writing tool.
